I’ve been working as a book editor since the mid-1990s, initially in legal publishing and educational publishing, and then in the general books division at HarperCollins Australia. It was at HarperCollins that I started editing fiction, working with authors such as Belinda Alexandra, Mardi McConnochie, Alan Gould, Bem Le Hunte, Alex Palmer, Frank Coates, Kim Wilkins, and Tobsha Learner.
In January 2004, I set up my own freelance editing business and since then have worked for a range of publishers, including HarperCollins, Pan Macmillan, Random House, Allen & Unwin, Hardie Grant and Hachette Australia. I’ve had the good fortune to work with many more Australian writers during this time, including Kim Westwood, Katherine Howell, Alison Goodman, Jackie French, Posie Graeme-Evans, Kirsten Tranter, Joy Dettman, Andrew Croome, Nigel Featherstone, Gabrielle Tozer, Lisa Heidke, Kelly Gardiner, Rebecca Lim, James Moloney, Tracy Farr, Greig Beck, Anita Heiss, Kylie Chan, Natasha Lester.
I also work with authors seeking editorial advice before submitting their manuscript to a literary agent or publisher; and authors who choose to self-publish.
From 2005 to 2013, I taught editing as part of the Graduate Certificate of Editing and Publishing at University of Technology Sydney; and also taught Editing and Manuscript Preparation for three years in Sydney University’s Master of Publishing program. I’ve run workshops on editing for the Australian Publishers Association, and the Society of Editors NSW; and workshops for writers at NSW Writers’ Centre, and the Sydney Writers’ Festival.
You can find out more about my editing services here; and read what some of my lovely authors have said about me here.
And my portfolio page shows some of the books I’ve been lucky enough to edit over the last few years.
